Art Lessons
in Abundance
BEFORE &
AFTER Views
Stone retaining walls, stepstone path, conifer
berm, and planting swaths upgrade this frontyard
garden from one of mostly lawn. A sense of
exuberant abundance now welcomes visitors.
By moving the existing fence forward in a stepped
configuration, the backyard is enlarged. A new
steel-columned pergola provides shelter from the
sun, and a gabion raised-bed planter highlights
this owner's artistic sensibilities.

Fence P R O C E S S
The massive hedge
(see Fence Before)
dominated this garden.
Reconfiguring the fence layout
provides spatial separation
but with more area allocated
for the backyard.

Pergola B E F O R E
This former hot-tub location
once needed the privacy of
a dense hedge. Removing
the failing arborvitaes
freed up space for new uses.
